AMAZING!!!
It is a unique mashup of movie genres. It is as if The Truman Show, Children of Earth, Running Man, Alice in Wonderland, and the unmade Halo all combined into a riveting, dystopian masterpiece.
I cannot believe the movie is rated PG-13 given the fact that children are brutally killing each other the entire time. It is not incredibly graphic, but the concepts being portrayed are some of the most violent and carnal I have seen in a story.
The premise of The Hunger Games reminded me a lot of reading the Halo book series. In Halo, a group of kidnapped children are brought into the wilderness with no supplies and commanded to infiltrate a military compound. It makes you imagine what it would be like to be a normal person put in a situation where you must kill or be killed.
The revolutionary overtones interested me as well, especially with the very real revolutions that have been happening all over the world. They did not focus very much on that aspect, but rebellion is what landed the kids in the hunger games.
Go watch it! I am getting the book asap.
